THE WARDROBE WAITING ROOM : Why are we saving joy for someday?
Last week on Instagram, I asked a simple question: What items do you love but wish you wore more? The replies were actually heartbreaking! “A blue gala dress that I feel divine in.” “Sequins.” “A hot pink jumpsuit.” So many of you shared the same reasons for keeping them hidden: “It’s too fancy,” “I’m scared to try it on post-baby,” or “I’m saving it for an occasion.”
For me, it’s this insane vintage sequin jacket I bought while working in Vienna. It’s way too big, and I can’t get it tailored because of all the sequins. So it just sat there, waiting. But I’ve decided to rethink its purpose. Instead of forcing it to fit traditional rules, I welcome the oversized fit and will start wearing it as a (dry weather) coat. That piece has officially left the waiting room.

Most of us have clothes that make us feel our absolute happiest, yet they’re just sitting in the dark. This is how I go about emptying my waiting room:
- Ditch the ‘Occasion’ Myth: Having an event gives us the justification to wear something fancy, but actually, just acknowledging that you deserve to feel great today is the only reason you need.
- Clear the Hanger: If a piece doesn’t fit your gorgeous body right now, don’t torture yourself with a daily reminder. Sell it on Vinted, replace it with something in the right size, or pack it away.
- Embrace Being ‘Too Much’: We all sometimes worry people will think, “Who does they think they are?!” The answer? The baddest, boldest, most confident version of yourself!
Time to take those pieces out of the waiting room and get them on your back, yes?
