when dressing like a unicorn becomes a non-negotiable

I have had an insanely busy week; it feels as though I’ve covered the whole of the South East in the space of five days, probably because that’s exactly what I’ve done! From family visits and delivering wedding cakes to rushing between events and conference calls, I have done it all, and I am about ready for a very long nap.

While visiting all these places, a wonderful pattern emerged: I kept having candid conversations with strangers about my outfits. From reassuring two young girls that you can, in fact, dress like a unicorn even when you’re a grown-up, to getting a shout of solidarity from a passing car, the underlying theme was the same – people who follow me online or simply spot me in a crowd often share that seeing someone knowingly overdressed gives them a little nudge of hope. It is a tangible reminder that you don’t need to be scared to be yourself, and that being the odd one out isn’t a bad thing. Dressing for your own joy genuinely radiates outward.

It can be incredibly easy to get dragged into the commercialised side of content creation, making things just for the sake of it. But interactions like these are exactly why I show up. It’s a reminder that leaving the beige behind and taking up space is a non-negotiable. Being unapologetically yourself isn’t just about the clothes; it is about the freedom and confidence that comes with them, and that is something worth getting dressed up for every single day.
